Overview

There are many conflicting theories on how best to create a positive and effective learning environment but few would argue that making the learner or student the central focus of the process is essential. How best to achieve this however is not always sufficiently considered in terms of the roles of bothteacher / educator and learner. This short course aims to explore the options open to teachers and trainers to enable them to get the best out of their learners in terms of them engaging with the planned learning sessions and performing effectively in their learning tasks.

Indicative Course Content:

How learners learn; learning styles; effective communication in and out of the classroom; comparative characteristics of traditional learning and contemporary learning theories; learning in groups; task based learning; active learning; competitive and non-competitive approaches; planning strategies.

Upon completion of the course participants will be expected to:

  • Apply a range of learner centred strategies to his/her teaching sessions
  • Make strategic decisions as to the most effective learning strategy to use in different learning contexts
  • Identify the strengths and limitations of a range of teaching / learning strategies

Sessions will have a strong active participation component with the facilitator keen to ensure that the experience will be fun and enjoyable as well as educational. The facilitator has wide experience of delivering this and related courses to clients both in the UK and internationally across Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
